Lakers make the Playoffs

The last game of the season was played last night with the Lakers on the ropes of whether or not they had a post season in their future. The situation was as follows if the Utah Jazz beat the Memphis Grizzlies then they would of tied the Lakers for 8th meaning their final game against the Rockets was a must win or the Lakers’ season would of ended because Utah earned the tie breaker.

Minutes before the game started in the Staples Center announcements of the Utah Jazz losing were released meaning the Lakers made the playoffs. Now the situation was who would be 8th or 7th seed. The winner of this Rockets/Lakers match determined who plays San Antonio as the loser faces the best in the west Oklahoma City Thunder. The winner is determined in a Overtime with the Lakers taking the Win and the 7th seed.

Kobe down but Lakers push on

Kobe Bryant puts up 34 points in a heart breaking game for the lakers and Lakers fans. The Lakers did win against the Golden State Warriors, but Kobe Bryant goes down in the fourth quarter with what was later diagnosed as a ruptured achilles tendon. Kobe being the fighter he is went to the free throw line and knocked down both free throws and then walked off the court.

Kobe is out for 6-9 months meaning the season is over for Kobe so what are the Lakers to do without their best player. Well the Lakers did not allow this to discourage them. They went on to beat Golden State and then they continued on and knocked off the San Antonio Spurs. The Lakers now lead the Jazz by 1 game for 8th place in the West. Hopefully the Lakers can hold on and clinch that 8th seed with a victory in their final math up against the Houston Rockets.

Number Four Overall

Kobe Bryant has officially moved up the scoring leader board this past game against their Pacific coast division rivals the Sacramento Kings. In the first quarter Steve Nash again has to leave a game early due to injury. With this injury occurring Kobe decided to change his style of play, instead of looking for his shot first he played more of a facilitator role. The Lakers ended the game with a victory over the Kings 103-98 and Kobe ended the game with 19 pts, 14 Ast, and 9 Reb. In the second quarter Kobe drains a pull up 19 foot jump shot that pushes him over Wilt Chamberlin to the number four overall spot on the leader boards in scoring. This gave Kobe 31,421 career points and Chamberlain has 31,419 total points.

Kobe’s injury: Was it a Dirty play?

The Lakers try to hold on to their 8th seed playoff spot by beating the Atlanta Hawks. In the fourth quarter the Lakers trail all the way to the end, but Kobe had a different plan of attack. Kobe put the team on his back dropping basket after basket and a crazy turn around three point shot that brought the Lakers within two points. Lakers defense stop the Hawks and the Lakers come back with the ball and of course the game time decision is in the hands of Kobe. This play was the most controversial play of the week. Should the refs had called a foul and was Dahntay Jones considered a dirty player due to this play. This play caused a severe ankle sprain to Kobe’s left ankle. The Lakers end up losing this game 96-92. What is your opinion, is this a dirty play, you make the decision.

D12 Returns to Orlando

Lakers Center and NBA superstar Dwight Howard returns to Orlando for the first time since he was traded. Although Howard says “He will always love the people of Orlando” the people of Orlando were not happy to see him. As Dwight Howards name was called for the starting line up the entire Amway Center erupted in boos and slander to number 12. Though the discouraging words Dwight did not let it get to his head. Howard played one of the best games of his season as a Laker. Dwight ended the game with 39 points and 16 rebounds.

Kobe Takes Flight

On March 3, 2013 The Lakers face the Atlanta Hawks which came down to be a nail biter. Lakers pull out the victory by a one point margin. The final score reading 99 – 98 and the Lakers finally reach 500 with a record of 30 – 30. The Lakers quest for the playoffs continues tonight against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Though Kobe Bryant scored 38 points in this game Bryant showed off that 34 years of age will not hold him back. Bryant through down a monstrous dunk on Atlanta Hawks’ Josh Smith. This Shows that the “Black Mamba” still has that high flying ability he had in his younger age. watch this clip.

Kobe for 31,000

Kobe Bryant has yet again set a scoring standard in the NBA. On Feb. 24, 2013 Bryant scored a game high 38 points against the Dallas Mavericks becoming the youngest player in NBA history to surpass 31,100 points in the win against the Mavericks. Bryant reached this milestone at 34 years, 185 days beating out the former mark held by Hall of Famer Wilt Chamberlain which held the record at 36 years and 164 days. This is a great motivator to continue the Lakers on their win streak.
